For Corns and Calluses

  1.  SHYNECK 72 piece callus pads.  A great price for the amount.  Perfect for daily bunion and bunionette padding.  Secret tip:  Cut the skinny end off and stick it to the wide end to double the padding. https://amzn.to/402G1pj
  2.  COMFWALK 60 piece toe corn pads.  These are the right size for toes, and a great price.  Secret tip:  Use on top of knuckles daily to prevent rubbing.  https://amzn.to/4ezzJ6J
  3. LAMBSWOOL:  My favorite moisture wicking toe separator.  It tends to stay in place.  It's real wool, so don't use if allergic. Helps reduce fungus infections between toes.  Secret tip: cut off desired amount and simply tuck it between your toes daily. Some people wrap it completely around the toe, but I never tried that.  https://amzn.to/44MonJ4
  4. FOAM TOE SEPARATORS.  These are my second favorite toe separators.  Use if allergic to wool.  They help reduce formation of corns between toes.  https://amzn.to/40zVaP4
  5.  SILICONE TUBES for LARGE toes.  I like the long tubes you can cut to size.  You can make several shapes and lengths.  Avoid any size that discolors toes after application.  Unlike Lambswool and Foam toe separators, these can cut off circulation if too small.  Secret Tip:  These can be cut to loop over the big toe AND pad a bunion bump.  https://amzn.to/406cyea
  6.  SILICONE TUBES for SMALLER toes.  You can cut these tubes to size, which is perfect for making several shapes.   Avoid any size that discolors toes after application.  Unlike Lambswool and Foam toe separators, these can cut off circulation if too small.  Secret Tip:  These can be cut to loop over the big toe AND pad a bunionette bump. https://amzn.to/40CT7tu
  7. FELT PADS for BOTTOM of FOOT.  These pads can reduce pain from bunions, calluses, and even large warts.  The height and shape of these make them well tolerated.  https://amzn.to/403jTLB
  8. FELT HORSESHOE PADS.  These are adhesive, and are appropriate for smaller calluses caused by bumps on the BOTTOMS of your feet.  Secret Tip:  Any callus that gets dark red or hot/inflamed needs to be checked out by your podiatrist.  https://amzn.to/3TVly27
  9. BUNION PADDING.  These adhesive pads contain moleskin which reduces friction and help relieve pain.  https://amzn.to/46rLfie
  10. UREA CREAM AND PUMICE STONE. Made in USA.  Urea is your friend in keeping calluses soft.  Do NOT use cream under padding or tape, which will trap too much moisture and cause potential skin breakdown.  Secret Tip:  Use pumice stone after skin is soft from bathing.  https://amzn.to/3GkWTB3
  11. 40% UREA CREAM.  Made in USA.  Cruelty Free.  Urea is your friend in keeping calluses soft.  Do NOT use under padding or tape, which will trap too much moisture and cause potential skin breakdown.  https://amzn.to/3TnzK3V
  12. PUMICE STONE. Soak those feet in lukewarm water or use directly after a bath or shower.   https://amzn.to/4kpPXk2
  13. PUMICE FOR IN BETWEEN TOES:  This is the only pumice stone shaped for between toes.  If you can't sand it safely, please see your podiatrist.  https://amzn.to/4nBl3rK
  14. BATTERY OPERATED CALLUS REMOVERS: I have this one personally.  It is easier to use if you have hand arthritis like I do.  https://amzn.to/3TlZU74
  15. CALLUS GRATERS:  Mine is very satisfying to use.  Secret Tip:  Gently pinch the callused skin between your fingers to test thickness.  Stop when skin is uniformly supple.  Don't over scrape! https://amzn.to/4lxX36Q

WHY DON'T I RECOMMEND SILICONE PADDING MORE OFTEN?

For 30 years, patients have told me silicone pads are uncomfortable.  They promote moisture and can even cause wounds.  Silicone BETWEEN the toes can trap moisture causing athlete's foot.  Silicone over toenails can trap moisture causing fungus infections in the nail.

WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

Always assess how any product works for you personally.  Always inspect your feet with your EYES, and don't just go by feel.  Some of our friends can't feel injuries, and catch them too late for prevention.  Please let me know if you find an extra special product that works for your toes!

For Warts

WART TREATMENT HAS TWO GOALS--REDUCE PAIN AND REMOVE THE WART

To reduce pain, try the appropriate pads in the section For Corns and Calluses above.

To remove the wart, two things help--DEBULKING the wart and GETTING TO THE BOTTOM of the wart (literally the lower layer of the epidermis).  Your podiatrist can help do both.  Here are the products I recommend:

  1.  40% Urea Creams.  Made in USA.  Cruelty Free. Secret Tip:  For Warts, use a thin layer of cream on the wart ONLY (not the surrounding skin), and cover with an adhesive dressing (bandaid) to penetrate wart.  Soaking in lukewarm water prior to application helps. Remove loosened wart layers with clean tool, and don't touch the wart with your skin as it's caused by a contagious virus.  https://amzn.to/3TnzK3V
  2. Salicylic Acid Topical Ointments.  These need to be applied regularly and consistently.  Both of these links have the best ratings on Amazon (in the thousands)  https://amzn.to/45QhmYO and https://amzn.to/3IfqpZs  Secret Tip:  No matter what the label says, PLEASE only use on warts and not calluses.  Calluses aren't as tough and resistant as warts--healthy skin can easily be irritated.  Use on WART only
  3. Salicylic Acid Plasters. This is presently the top rated premeditated wart plaster.  https://amzn.to/4lGGeqG
  4. Freezing Products:  Freezing works best when warts are effectively debulked and close to the root or base of the skin.  IF the wart is mostly gone, you can try this one, but using it too long can damage the skin. Use with caution or allow a professional to apply it. Only the wart and its immediate edge should be frozen.  Freezing can cause gangrene of the skin.  https://amzn.to/46w9RGH

A NOTE ON FREEZING WARTS (For Doctors Only):

During my last year of practice (sigh), I finally found the fastest, most effective way of removing a wart in clinic without needing repeat patient visits.  I used a dermal curette (https://amzn.to/44jrHv6 or https://amzn.to/44eZ2r8)  without anesthesia to debulk as much wart as possible.  Single use dermal curettes are so sharp that patients tolerated this without significant pain.  I cauterized the base of the wart with silver nitrate, then froze with liquid nitrogen (making sure to crystallize on the wart and it's immediate edge), followed by dressing and padding the site.  One and done.  I was very pleasantly surprised at how fast, effective, and well tolerated this treatment was.  Please do not try this at home.  For professionals only!
